Sergey Khanukaev is a composer, sound artist, and director based in Berlin. His work moves across electronic, electroacoustic, improvisational, and site-specific forms, with a strong focus on sound as space, texture, movement, and presence.
He creates music releases, sound compositions, performance-based works, and sonic environments for listening, image, stage, and installation. Alongside independent artistic practice, he develops collaborative projects for theater, moving image, and interdisciplinary contexts.

Writing music is a way of capturing something that seems to reach its ending before it has fully begun. It is not a stencil or a fixed drawing in sound.
It is a trace of thought in motion. In improvisation, sound steps out of routine and begins to take shape. I try to step aside, observe it, and almost read the composition as it forms in my mind.

Music Releases and Listening Works
I create electronic and electroacoustic music for focused listening, immersion, and inner space. These works include independent releases, long-form compositions, and sound pieces shaped through texture, movement, atmosphere, and compositional development.
Sound Installations
I work with electroacoustic and electronic sound in spatial and installation contexts. These projects are developed in dialogue with architecture, image, movement, and concept, expanding the visitor’s experience through sound as an active presence in space.
Improvisation and Live Performance
I perform solo and collaborative improvisational sets with electronic and acoustic elements. These works grow in real time through listening, interaction, and form, and may unfold in concert settings, interdisciplinary projects, or live dialogue with image and movement.
Music for Theater, Performance, and Image
I compose for theater, performance, and moving image, creating music that supports dramatic structure, atmosphere, rhythm, and presence. This includes commissioned work, collaborative stage projects, and sound developed in close relation to action, text, and visual form.
Artistic Guidance and Teaching
I teach the history, language, and practice of electronic and electroacoustic music. This work includes lectures, workshops, and individual guidance in composition, listening, form, and artistic development.
